Dr. Xiaojie Wang
Research Assistant Professor

Dr. Xiaojie Wang holds a B. Eng degree in Fluid Mechanics from Tsinghua University in Beijing, China. He also has a M.S. and a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Science and Technology of China, and the University of Nevada, Reno, respectively. Dr. Wang has six years research experience at the Institute of Plasma Physics, Chinese Academy of Science, and more than ten years research experience in the field of ER/MR fluids and related areas. His research interests are in smart materials, sensor/actuator mechatronic systems, structure dynamics and control, passive and active vibration isolation and vibration damping.

Dr. Fenghui Shi
Visiting Scholar

Dr. Fenghui Shi holds a BS degree in Mechanical Engineering from Xi'an University of Architecture and Technology, China. He also has a M.S. and a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from Kanagawa University, Japan. He is a lecturer of Akashi National College of Technology, Japan. He joined CIML in April, 2012 as a visiting scholar. His expertise is in the area of mechanical design and vibration control including optimization and design of MR semi-active devices.

Dr. Rui Li
Visiting Scholar

Dr. Rui Li holds a Ph.D. in Instrumentation Science & Technology from Chongqing University, China. He is an associate professor of Chongqing University of Posts and Telecommunications. He joined CIML in August, 2011 as a visiting scholar. His research interests are in smart mechatronic systems and vibration isolation control strategies.

Ms. Zhaochun Li
Visiting Scholar

Zhaochun is a Ph.D candidate at School of Mechanical Engineering in Nanjing University of Science and Technology, China. She joined CIML in August, 2011 as a visiting scholar and is performing research on MR material applications and related control strategies.

Mr. Nima Ghafoorianfar
Ph.D. Student, Research Assistant

Nima graduated with a B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering in 2005 from Ferdowsi University of Mashhad, Iran, majoring in Solid Mechanics. He received his M.S. degree in Energy Conversion in 2008 from FUM. He started his Ph.D. degree at the University of Nevada, Reno shortly after graduating from FUM. He is involved in experimental and computational studies on MR elastomers at the CIML.

Mr. Majid Behrooz
Ph.D. Student, Research Assistant and Lab Manager

Majid graduated with a B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Shahrood University of Technology, 2004. He obtained his M.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering, applied design from the K.N.Toosi University of Technology, 2007. He is currently pursuing a Ph.D. degree in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Nevada, Reno since 2008. His research includes MRE dampers and vibration isolation.

Mr. Alireza Bayat
Ph.D. Student, Research Assistant

Alireza received his B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering from Sharif University of Technology, Iran 2002. He obtained his M.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering, applied design from Iran University of Science and Technology, 2005. He is pursuing a Ph.D. degree in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Nevada, Reno since 2011. His current research includes Fuel Cells.

Mr. Norman Johnson
Graduate Student, Research Assistant

Norman came to the CIML in June of 2009 and is currently working on his Master's degree from the University of Nevada, Reno. He obtained his Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering form Brigham Young University. His research is on MR elastomers.

Mr. Nicholas Maus
Graduate Student, Research Assistant

Nich worked full time as a machinist and a welder for 7 years while attending college part-time. After working for some time as the manager of an A.S.M.E. certified pressure vessel shop, he decided to return to school full time. He graduated from the University of Nevada, Reno in the 2011 with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering. He joined CIML in the same year and is currently working toward his M.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering.

Ms. Lingyue Zheng
Graduate Student, Research Assistant

Ling is currently an undergraduate student majoring in mechanical engineering. She joined CIML in 2011 and is performing research on MR materials.

Mr. Garrett Madsen
Undergraduate Student, Research Assistant

Garrett is currently an undergraduate student majoring in mechanical engineering. He joined CIML in 2012.

Mr. Nate Gapp
Undergraduate Student, Research Assistant

Nate is currently an undergraduate student majoring in mechanical engineering, minoring in communications. His research is in Direct Methanol Fuel Cells.
